Have you ever thought about the fact that sometimes we care more about others and what's happening in the world than we do about our own selfs. What I am referring to is that we probably are scrolling our phones more often and looking to see whats new, exciting, funny, etc, when we should be working on ourselfs or when we should be more present.
Among these are our social media pages like Insta, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Twitch, etc., along with our favorite websites, blogs, checking emails, newsletters, online shopping, or what I like to call 'screen shopping' (similar to window shopping, but on the computer).
Maybe I may be referring more to myself , but I see this in others as well, so I know I am not alone, but do most of us even recognize this in our self's?🤔
The urge to pick up our devices and scroll is strong! Ok so it may also be apart of my job, so I find myself doing it often for the accounts I manage, as well as my own. Even shopping and scrolling through sites like Amazon, Target, or other shopping sites, reading articles, news etc. We are constantly looking to see what's going on. Even if just to peep real quick. (Which usually ends up being longer than expected.😅
Even when watching a movie, or binging a show, I find myself scrolling, or stoping to pick it up so I can look for something, or and idea comes to my head, some times it's a thought, and boom, I've grabbed my phone to scroll. Or perhaps I am bored, and instead of talking with the people or person I'm with and being in the moment, I start the dreaded scroll and then I pick up my phone to "check in" on the world. And ofcourse I love to take pictures, and make videos, either for myself or for conent, so again I often pick up and am on my phone. Or when I should be working, and then I get caught up and suddenly timed has passed by and it's been like 45 mins! Maybe that's my undiagnosed ADHD. Ahaha 😅
Being more aware of this means I need to be more vigilant about taking a break and realizing it's ok to not need to look at whats going on with others and it can wait. The internet isn't going anywhere. The world is going to keep going and I can catch up later.
This means being more intentional about putting my phone, and even tablet away during times i should be more present. Family time together, Selfcare moments, out on a date, or whenever.
🚨Just a reminder that it’s okay to pause the scroll and detach from the internet. Be present in whatever you’re doing—whether it’s completing tasks, fostering creativity, enjoying quality time with loved ones, practicing self-care, spending time alone, or tackling chores around the house.
Avoid falling into the trap of the dreaded doom scroll, worrying about what others are up to. It can wait. Focus on completing your tasks, having some fun, working on that creative project, and being in the moment! While technology offers countless opportunities and has become an essential part of life, let’s not forget who we are without it.
While it’s crucial to be mindful of our digital habits, let’s also recognize the positive impact technology brings. It facilitates connections, provides learning opportunities, and offers a world of entertainment. Striking a balance allows us to harness the benefits while staying present in our offline lives. After all, technology, when used consciously, enhances rather than hinders our experiences.📲💻
